Forg was found on the outskirts of the battle of Hawksmoor Hills on the outskirts of Brie in 611cf where a group of Dwarf families were caught by dark creatures while trying to leave the local area and the destruction. The two apprentices for Taelon Forg were out looking for special armor and weapon metals left from the battle to use in their business. The apprentices heard a noise coming from under a shield held by a felled Dwarf, when they looked under the shield they found a young Dwarf somewhere between three and six years old gripping the felled Dwarf like a son to a father. The three apprentices decided to take the Dwarf child back to Taelon Forg, as they were unsure of what to do. Taelon Forg decided to take the Dwarf and raise him as his own son since his wife had died without leaving a child. Taelon gave his adopted son the name Forg and had an apprentice return to the battlefield and bring back the shield Forg was found under as it was the only clue to his Dwarf family.
For the next 30 years Forg learned from Taelon Forg the fine art of weapon and armor smithing along with his two apprentices, but the natural strength and abilities soon eclipsed Taelons two apprentices causing one to leave to start their own business while the last apprentice stayed on under a sense of loyalty. Taelon while now nearly 60 was still very robust for his age and loved the work that his smithy put out, though he has put away plenty of funds to retire on he still continues to work the daily business. For Forg as of late dreams of his people and the meaning of the shield Taelon had saved for him plagued his mind and started thoughts of striking out from Brie to discover his past.
The apprentice Adalan who left to pursue a career without the hindrance of Forg who he despised because he was now considered the odd man out left Brie never to be seen again by Forge. While Timeal the apprentice that stayed continued to work in Taelon’s shop, hoping to inherit the shop after Taelon retired now that Forg was gone.
The street that Forg worked on at Taelon’s shop was located on the north end of the grand market and was the preferred builder of weapons and armor for Castle Brie and the Knights of Brie, the elite warriors of the Gran March’s military force.
Forg was well acquainted with the Chancellor at Castle Brie and assisted his father in the daily transactions at the castle. Forg was also good friends with Laird the owner of the Hilt & Hammer located at High Court in Brie, Laird employed a Dwarven female as his cook, which is where Forge learned to speak Dwarven and also where he became acquainted with traditions of Hill Dwarves as well as Mountain Dwarf traditions and ways.
Forge spent many years researching heraldry in the Vault of Ohghma as well as looking for any information that would give him some insight into his family’s past. To help in his research Forge also spent years walking the public and military docks talking to crews and ship captain’s also hoping to obtain some information into his past. One day during 18th year Forge was on the public docks moving from ship to ship when a large wave came into the bay and hit the docks, sending many people under the waves from the wave impact. Forg was saved only by his uncanny strength as he was able to pull himself back to the surface along the rope of a ship’s anchor. From this point forward is when Forge developed his phobia that Ulmo, the god of oceans, waves and storms was trying to kill him through water.
The one constant in Forg’s early life was his human friend Galamar, a boy of short stature but uncanny speed and dexterity. Galamar was a local Knights son who was constantly bullied about his size as Forg was, but as they reached their teens, their impressive ability as fighters became apparent through the teachings of Galamar’s father. This ability was put to the test only once by the local group of young thugs. After the group received a thrashing at the hands of Forg and Galamar, they were then given a wide birth. Forg and Galamar continued to learn there fighting ways even after Galamar was asked to join the Knight of Brie in his late twenties. Forg was well thought of by the Knight of Brie and skilled enough to be one of them, but because of his race was never allowed that honor. When Galamar and Forge reached their early thirties Galamar’s knight unit was moved north and Forg’s best friend of twenty plus years was gone, this was when Forge started truly thinking of leaving himself to quest for the true history of his family and past. Was he of noble birth, was his one relic “the shield” proof of his heritage and why could he not find any information on its heraldry, was it so uncommon that he no longer had any living family or was it only allowed for the family elder to wear as most of his Dwarven research indicated.
This is where Forg’s quest starts at the age of 30 and will he ever see his friend Galamar again?
